I have always enjoyed Korean food to some degree and eat it once in a while. But I was taken to a higher level yesterday at Sikgaek Korean Restaurant & Bar! I have completely changed my outlook on Korean food!
Sikgaek Korean Restaurant is located on Dundas and Cawthra in Mississauga, and I believe they have a couple of locations in the GTA. I’ve been to Sikgaek twice after someone suggested trying their fried chicken. I wasn’t quite blown away with their KFC after that first visit so was hemming and hawing about trying it again yesterday. But we decided to give it ago for other foods on the menu.
Sikgaek has a pretty large menu offering common selections as other Korean restaurants, plus there were other interesting choices as well. This is what we ordered and my feedback:
Shrimp Fried Rice. This was so delicious and so full of flavour! The fried rice bowl had nori (seaweed) in their recipe, adding a saltiness that reminded me of salty fish fried rice… But had a way better taste! We ordered the fried rice to accompany our other dish…
This next dish I can’t remember the name (it was Galbi something – pork belly)! OMG, this dish was amazing! The pork belly was cooked well but remained tender and full of flavour. It is not spicy at all. Alongside the pork was some bean sprouts and green onion (I’m not a fan of onion so just didn’t take any). This one dish changed my whole outlook on Korean food! (I mean I always enjoyed eating this food but wow!). This Galbi dish is new on their menu.
Of course, alongside our food included a few dishes of banchan. The pickled cabbage was particularly tasty, and I think the kimchi at Sikgaek is my favourite.
Also, I must add customer service at Sikgaek was excellent. Both times we’ve been here we received friendly and excellent service. (Usually service at Korean restaurants is subpar)… I know I’m raving about this place!
Here was our KFC meal from before. Too much onion.
BTW, I’m heading to South Korea for the first time in a few months – I can’t wait!
