Greek Mountain Tea ( Olympus Mountain Tea from Arcadia Imports )
I fell in love with Greece when I visited the country four years ago. There is something magical about looking across the vast blue water into the caldera from the Greek Isles, admiring historical and cultural landmarks while walking along cobblestone sidewalks, the warm, welcoming friendly people. AND OF COURSE the delicious, natural healthy foods that can only be found in Greece! (Oooh, I do miss the delicious meals we had in Greece…)
I am fortunate to have found a local importer right in Toronto who specializes in natural Greek foods and beverages – ARCADIA IMPORTS.
Amongst the delicious edibles that Arcadia Imports (haha), one delicious tea that I discovered from them is the OLYMPUS MOUNTAIN TEA – Purity tea, which is an herbal tea containing only the Sideritis scardica plant from Mount Olympus, Greece. This tea is organic, hand harvested, loose leaf and caffeine-free. (This is perfect for my daughter who we discovered is intolerant to so many foods!).
The Olympus Mountain Tea is quite nice – it has a subtle earthy flavour much lighter than chamomile. It is delicious, soothing and calming. I took a small amount of the dried plant and steeped it in boiling water for a few minutes, and added some creamy organic honey I had in my cupboard. (Arcadia Imports recommends trying this tea with Greek thyme honey). It’s quite soothing, I can imagine Olympus Mountain Tea is great when you’re feeling run-down or have a sore throat.
After drinking the Olympus Mountain Tea, I decided to research a bit more about the Sideritis scardica plant – the many benefits of this plant include:
- Aiding in digestion
- Strengthens the immune system and suppresses the common cold, flu and other viruses, allergies, shortness of breath, sinus congestion, even pain and anxiety

Along with the Olympus Mountain Tea, Arcadia Imports also carries another organic herbal tea called ORGANIC ISLANDS, specially sourced from the island of Naxos (this one is special, I do miss Naxos and their most delicious potatoes). I’ll write about this tea soon!
