Wonton Chai Noodle – Mississauga

I found out about Wonton Chai in Mississauga and needed to give it a try.  Its located at Burnhamthorpe and Creditview, right beside Bubble Republic and Chilli Chicken House.  I think its a really nice addition to the Mississauga Chinese community.

The outdoor sign is bright, bubbly and welcoming, giving the impression that it would be a fun experience once we step inside.  The inside was bright and clean.  We went today on a very hot day, and we also thought it was quite hot inside the restaurant.  We were sweating from a combination of hot soup and maybe low air conditioning, and my legs were sticking to the chair..yuck! LOL.

Wonton Chai doesn’t sell anything complicated since their mission is delicious wonton noodle soup.  They also served beef brisket, dace balls (I recall that on the menu), and some green veggies.  The menu was very inexpensive ($5.00 for a bowl of wonton soup).  I ordered the shrimp wonton and dumpling (or as we call it sui gow) combo with rice noodles.  I made a mistake when ordering my daughter’s soup (she wanted dumplings and I ordered her shrimp wontons in error).

Shrimp Wonton and Dumpling Combo

The wontons were pretty big and came with four shrimp wontons in the bowl.  The combo came with two big wontons and two big dumplings.  Overall size of the meal wasn’t too large as I managed to finish everything.  Usually I’m not able to finish the noodles at other restaurants.  So this could be interpreted as – Wonton Chai is delicious, I was really hungry, or their serving was small.  I credit them with serving us a really good and tasty bowl of wonton soup.

Oh yeah!  I forgot to take a picture of their logo on the spoon and bowls.  To me, the last character looks like a sideview of a person slurping down a strand of noodle.  Let me know if you think the same thing.

P.S.  I went back to Wonton Chai sometime during this week (June 11th) and ordered the Beef Brisket with Rice Noodles.  They didn’t give much meat but the broth and noodles were very tasty.  Can’t complain for such a low price.  These prices are so great it beats eating at McDonalds any day!

  1. I find it interesting the way you put so much focus on the ambiance and overall environment of the restaurant.

Love the photo though – those wontons look very big and meaty! I haven’t been to the Burnhamthorpe / Creditview plaza in a while because I am working at a different location, so I had not seen this place before.

  2. I notice everything when I visit a new restaurant, I can’t help it. I think when people are looking up a restaurant, they want to know about the whole experience.

They were really good. I wish they gave more than four. Next time I’m just going to order the wontons without the noodles.

  4. As a result of reading this blog post, I visited Wonton Chai today. I was a little confused because I thought it was in the same plaza as Chiu Chow man, but I eventually found it in the No Frills plaza across the street.

I think what you get for the price is VERY good at Wonton Chai.

I’m not Asian and don’t speak any Chinse dialects, so I had a little trouble asking them about menu items, but in the end I got the separated soup with noodles, shrimp wonton and dumplings. The dumplings are big and meaty and tasty. Loved them.

As an aside, I was quite impressed with the nice and well-appointed and clean washroom.

PS – for any other readers, this place takes CASH only. No debit. No credit.
