Yellow Cup Cafe – An Obvious Gem

Yellow Cup Cafe, a cute little European style cafe located across from Cloverdale Mall is extremely small, extremely popular, and extremely busy.

We got there around 10 am to get a quick bite in the morning.  I knew it was going to be busy and had actually wanted to get there earlier.

Yellow Cup Cafe is really cute (oh, I said that earlier).  Its decorated in an Eastern European country setting with yellow cups and decoration everywhere.  The dining furniture is made up of little bistro tables, couches, coffee tables, etc.  Its really cramped in there with barely enough room to move around.  That sort’ve adds to the atmosphere of the whole place.

My daughter grabbed the one available table while I lined up to place our order.  The set up of the cafe is a little weird.  As soon as you walk in the door, a first time customer would see the cashier right away and think they would have to place their order there.  But no, in order to place your order, you have to move to the left of the counter, and once that is done, slide down to the right and pay at the cashier.  Then they give you a number and bring your meal to your table when its ready.

Their specialty breakfasts are probably their assorted delicious looking crepes.  We did not order that, but settled for two orders of Big Country Breakfast instead.  This breakfast includes 3 kinds of meat, toast, 3 eggs, homemade hashbrowns or fruit salad, and coffee.  It was a really good price of $9.45 each.

Their coffee station is self serve, offering five or six different kinds of coffee (which is really good quality by the way).  I tried their house blend, and refilled with the maple flavoured coffee.  The maple flavoured actually tasted really good.

You can’t really go wrong with traditional breakfast of bacon, eggs, toast, etc.  What makes this exceptional was the great, refillable coffee, and the huge serving of quality food for such a low price.

Yellow Cup Cafe has a mouth watering selection of cakes and desserts, and they also serve fresh sandwiches at lunch.  I have been here for lunch a few years back, but this is the first time for breakfast.
