Galito’s Flame Grilled Chicken

Thanks to the suggestion of an RFC reader, I went to check out Galito’s on Friday night.  Galito’s Flame Grilled Chicken is located in the same plaza as T and T on Central Parkway.  Its in the building that used to be Arby’s.   Galitos is a South African based restaurant/eatery specializing in Peri Peri grilled chicken.

The restaurant/eatery is nicely designed with attractive furnishings.  It is set up so you would order at the counter and the staff would bring the food to you.  The food would be served on real plates and cutlery as opposed to take out containers.  The staff were friendly and accommodating –  I was looking at and inquisitively examining everything and they didn’t even blink an eye.  There were customers looking at me as if I was from another planet.  LOL.

The menu selection was quite nice with choices based on their delicious flame grilled chicken.  You could choose a chicken meal with sides, you could choose chicken wings, kebabs, salad, etc. They even have burgers if you do not feel like eating chicken.

We selected the family meal to take out which consisted of garlic sticks and choice of two sides.  They cut up the chicken for us and we selected mild (even though there was still a kick to it).  For the sides we selected baked potato (they include sour cream and butter) and their peri peri rice.  The family meal was about $26.99 plus tax.

It was delicious and the servings were a good size.  The chicken was well prepared and cooked and had a great taste.  The family meal lasted us two days (two people).  A GREAT alternative to Swiss Chalet!

Galitos was pretty busy with mostly people ordering take out.  I have a feeling that they will be very successful.

I will post my meal pictures but in the meantime, check out Galito’s website for their delicious menu.

I tried Galito on Friday afternoon. I ordered two quarter chicken w/side for lunch. The chicken was very tasty.
BTW, seems you are from Mississauga, is Macey’s closed?

I’m not sure if Macey’s is closed. I’ve only been there once.

I was in the area recently and I remember your blog post about Galitos, so I decided to try it out. I got the double chicken skewers (hot sauce) with rice.

My ethnic background is in the Caribbean so I am accustomed to eating very hot and spicy food. I thought the chicken was cooked just right to be moist enough and not overdone. Spices were tasty but somewhat understated for my liking. The two little containers of pepper sauce that came with the meal were a big benefit here. Really enjoyed those. Lots of flavour and kick.

The rice was clearly spiced with westerners in mind, and I found the natural flavours to be extremely tame. Fortunately the included pepper sauces go a long way. After mixing some of them in with the rice, was pretty tasty.

One thing that annoyed me about the combos is that you have to get a drink. There is no way to just get the regular meal and save money by not buying a drink.

I should also mention, Galitos is a halal restaurant. This doesn’t matter to me, but some others will care.
